Thank you!! I sped read/skimmed Embodied because people kept recommending Sprinkle to me and I realized I couldn't avoid his work anymore. It was obvious something was wrong/off about his arguments, but since I hadn't studied the trans affirming side much yet I wasn't able to interact with it much. I was like what does a trans person have to say about this?? And boy, have you delivered. Thanks for the thorough analysis.

Thanks. Yeah I think a lot of affirming people do have enough to sense that there is something wrong with "Embodied". I am hoping that this worl will help to clarify what it is that is so wrong with that book and will also help people who are in the "warm but not affirming yet" group to recognized the problems with his text.

Also I am definitely planning to write a single essay review of his upcoming book on same sex marriage as quickly as I can after it drops on August 1st.

Yeah, Sprinkle is popular with that "warm but not affirming yet" crowd. I have found that I don't care for him, but he sometimes helps people move towards being affirming. Maybe some people need that stepping stone? I don't know. I think there are better ways forward, especially since he's LGB without the T. I actually came around to affirming TI before LGB. So my path to affirming theology was different than most.

I'm anxious about his upcoming book. But looking forward to your review!

Honestly the thing that gives me the most pause in writing this series is the fact that he has been helpful in moving people (even on the question of trans-ness) from a "cruel non-affirming" approach to a "nice non-affirming" approach. In the end I decided that his work still contains too much poison to let go as "helpful if uncomfortable" because I really do think people ought to be aware of the problems with it.

And yeah I was also affirming of T before LGB! There are some of us out there! My impression is that his upcoming book is going to double down on the non-affirming element in his message while also trying hard to preserve the niceness approach he is known for and champions. I will be especially interested to hear what my cis Side B friends think of the book.
